3GT INVESTIGATES: BLACK, MURDERED, MISSING, TRAFFICKED
WEDNESDAY MARCH 25 @ 7:30 PM
The 3GT Investigates Program commissions teams of women playwrights to deeply interrogate critical issues of our time using investigative/documentary theatre techniques. This work-in-progress “scratch” performance will highlight the early stages of our newest project exploring the disappearence and murder of Black women in Oakland. The BMMT writing team includes Cat Brooks (head writer), Amissa Miller and Ayodele Nzinge.
California consistently has the highest number of human-trafficking incidents reported in the U.S. The FBI refers to the SF Bay Area as one of the world’s major sex trafficking hubs. In Oakland, 98% of trafficking victims are female, 64% are Black. In collaboration with Regina Evans of Regina’s Door, an artistic safe haven and healing sanctuary for at-risk youth, homeless youth, young Oakland Creatives, and survivors of human trafficking.
