LEZWRITES! WILL BE PRESENTED ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 26th.
WHAT IS LEZWRITES!? LEZWRITES! Is a project of 3Girls Theatre Company that produces readings and performances of short works by lesbian playwrights and in the SF Bay Area. 3GT Resident Playwright, Margery Kreitman, curates the project. We are pleased to announce that for this show, renowned writer and activist, Jewelle Gomez, will be our guest co-curator.
WHO SHOULD SUBMIT: Calling for HUMOROUS short works by lez, bi, and trans playwrights and writers. Seeking submissions from women of ALL AGES, RACES and ETHNICIES. WOMEN OF COLOR STRONGY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY! We love it if you are a writer who is comfortable performing her own work; if not, please send us your piece anyway and we will find a qualified actor(s).
THEME: “Women And The Body Politic
PROMPTS: Humor, equal political representation, 50-50 in 20/20, bathroom politics, our bodies ourselves, this year’s election, how far we have come, how far we have to go for rights, justice and equality; how you choose to interpret “Women and the Body Politic”. We are seeking HUMOROUS pieces depicting your lez, bi, trans, (or all 3!) life experience. This can focus on the festival theme and/or one or more of the following topics: work, dating, sex, intimacy, marriage divorce, family, parenting, gender, race, health, aging, community, generational differences, body image. We request 5-10 minute humorous pieces. They can be personal essay, flash memoir, monologue, slam poetry, 1-2 character short play, or creative non-fiction.
WHEN/WHERE: We will be doing a reading /performance on Friday, August 26th at 7:15pm at Thick House (located on Potrero Hill, San Francisco). It is a great venue with lots of street parking. (Please make sure you are available on the day of the reading to attend a run-though in addition to the performance).
HOW TO SUBMIT: Submission by email only. Please send submissions to: lwsubmissions@3girlstheatre.org with the subject “LezWrites! 2016” in subject line. Please attach your scripts to your email in MS Word or PDF. Please include your name and all contact information on the cover page only. Please number the pages.
