3GT Investigates: Looking for Writers
3GT Investigates: Black, Missing, Murdered, Trafficked (working title) is a new piece of documentary theatre by 3Girls Theatre’s 3GT Investigates program. 3GT Investigates projects bring together a team of women writers to respond with immediacy to current events that impact women’s lives and civil rights. Each project is led by a 3GT playwright, in collaboration with a community nonprofit invested in the issues we seek to illuminate through theatre. BMMT will explore the untold stories of missing and murdered Black girls in Oakland, CA, and how Oakland’s place as a major stop on the human trafficking circuit has brought the Bay Area into the center of a national debate between sex workers and victims of trafficking, with advocates on either side pitted against each other in the name of “safety.”
Our collaborator is MISSSEY, an Oakland-based nonprofit that provides support services to trafficked girls and women between 14-21 years old. They will connect us to clients and their families, adult sex-workers, law enforcement, and other advocates. The Project’s head writer is award-winning 3GT playwright Cat Brooks, a longtime activist/community organizer (and recent Oakland mayoral candidate). Brooks has extensive experience working with MISSSEY and the communities they serve.
Submissions to participate in the 3GT Investigates: BMMT writing team are due 11/01/19.
