A message from Artistic Director AJ Baker – 2018 Season
As 2018 begins, we’re celebrating 3GT’s seventh anniversary! And with national attention focused on the need to hear women’s voices across the cultural and political spectrum, 3GT’s mission could not be more relevant.
I have so much great news to share with you about what’s coming up between now and August!
On Stage next at Z Below, DISRUPTION: April 6-28
DISRUPTION (the 2017 3GT Festival winner) tells the story of a powerful woman CEO who has a single, high-pressure day to deal with allegations of sexual harassment before the (fake?) news goes viral, destroying both her career and her biotech company. When I wrote this play last year, I had no idea how relevant the subject matter would be to current cultural moment! 3GT’s own Louis Parnell directs an amazing all-Equity cast: Sally Dana, Heather Gordon, Nancy Madden, Timothy Roy Redmond and himself.
This year, for the first time, you can choose your own seats when you buy online!
Join Us For a Salon Reading
The 2017-2018 Salon Reading Series continues monthly on Sunday afternoons at the Phoenix Theatre. We love our venue in the heart of the downtown theatre district! All readings are at 414 Mason Street (Mason and Geary), right off Union Square. Join us each month through June for new plays by our resident playwrights at all different points on the development cycle. Sign-up is really easy, and you can do it as far in advance as you wish. Or just walk in after brunch! Our next reading ( with playwright Linda Ayres-Frederick) is on March 18 at 2 pm.
Our Newest Program: 3GT Innovators Series
In 2018, 3GT is launching an exciting new theatre project: the 3GT Innovators Series. We’re delighted that our institutional funding partner for the pilot season is the Kenneth Rainin Foundation!
The 3GT Innovators Series will present experimental work-in-progress by women playwrights to an audience that is notoriously difficult to reach: young Bay Area “techies” and professionals. For our pilot season, we’ll invite three experimental women-led theater companies to work with us to develop and present staged readings onsite at a San Francisco tech company. The public will have a chance to enjoy encore performances by our Innovators at the 2018 New Works Festival in July. By connecting our community’s edgy young theater innovators with their counterparts in technology, 3GT hopes to spark new kinds of artistic collaboration and build a larger “techie” audience for new plays by women.
We received dozens of terrific applications for the program. The inaugural class of Innovators will be announced in March. More about this project here!

In addition, Zach is heading up the pilot program the 3GT Innovators Series. If you want to learn more about what Zach’s up to, just shoot him an email.
Coming Up this Summer:
2018 Annual New Works Festival
This year’s Festival theme is BUBBLE, BUBBLE, TOIL & TROUBLE: SF IN 2018. Our 2018 theme was chosen to give local theatre artists and audience members a chance to explore our community’s “bubble” from as many perspectives as possible, and we’re excited to see what happens! The Festival runs from July 27 to August 5, and registration opens in June. Become a 3GT Club Member and get first dibs on reserved seating
