MEET OUR 2016 NEW WORKS FESTIVAL PARTICIPANTS
All-new staged readings of the two best new plays from this year's Salon Reading Series
Throughout the year, 3GT presents free staged readings of new plays by our company playwrights at intimate “Salons” in private homes and public spaces throughout the Bay Area. At the end of the Salon Reading Series, an independent panel selects 2 finalists to be performed at the annual New Works Festival. A different jury then picks one of the Finalists to be the winner of our Festival Prize. The Salon Series is 3GT’s core development program and the New Works Festival is it’s culmination!
This year, we’re delighted to present staged readings of two very different Finalists: COUNTRY MATTERS by Lee Brady and SLICE by Robin Bradford. Each play will be read by professional actors twice during the week, so don’t miss your chance to experience these outstanding new works onstage. Join us for a “double feature” performance on Saturday afternoon that includes two readings, a talk-back and a chance to meet the fine artists exhibiting in our lobby art show at our Festival artists’ Champagne reception.
COUNTRY MATTERS. Monday Aug 22 @ 7:30 pm, Saturday Aug 27 @ 3 pm. When the two long-married couples decide to trade houses—and spouses—for the summer, you can bet it’s going to be much more than just a “cultural exchange!” 3GT Resident Playwright Lee Brady set her comedy in San Francisco and Edinburgh, but this racy tale of adventure, sex and romance –at any age –is universal.
SLICE. Tuesday Aug 23@ 7:30 pm, Saturday Aug 27 @ 1 pm. A courageous teenager living in the Tenderloin struggles to cope with her mother’s addiction while dealing with her own growing pains. 3GT Resident Playwright Robin Bradford crafts this timely coming-of-age drama with sensitivity and compassion.
All tickets to the Festival are FREE but advance reservations a must if you want to avoid ending up on the waitlist! Seating at Thick House is very limited and last year many events sold out weeks before the show. Sign up on our website today.
