WHAT
LezWritesBTQ is a unique development and performance program for emerging lesbian, queer, transgender, and gender non-conforming theatre-makers. Our LBTQ playwrights and solo-performers create work that speaks directly to lesbian and queer artists and audiences, with an emphasis on women of color, people with disabilities, and other communities traditionally underrepresented in theatre.
WHY
When 3GT playwright Margery Kreitman created LezWrites in 2013, it was the only program of its kind in the Bay Area dedicated exclusively to serving LBTQ dramatists. In 2019, LezWritesBTQ takes our legacy program to a new level, offering 6 LBTQ playwrights and solo performers script development and performance opportunities throughout the year.
WHEN
We are accepting script submissions for the 2020-2021 season! To submit to be a part of this program, you can click here to submit an application, or you can also contact Program Director Tina D’Elia.
“LezWritesBTQ is vital and necessary! The program is radically different than mainstream theater… LezWritesBTQ speaks to many of us across generations and celebrates LBTQ/NB cultures. “

LezWritesBTQ Program Director; 3GT Kreitman Fellow
I’m thrilled to be heading up the latest iteration of this fantastic program. When I started participating in LezWrites in 2015, it was the first time in over a decade that I’d had the opportunity to perform with LBTQ women and Non-Binary people in an annual festival and project that is of, by, and for these communities. Queer and Trans women and NB people from their 20’s-70’s participate in 3GT’s program, reaching intergenerational audiences that range in age from their 20’s-90’s. What an exciting time for us to expand to have more opportunities for Queer and Trans women’s work to be promoted, produced, developed, and valued on stage and with audiences who are hungry for us!
Margery Kreitman
Founding Curator
I created LezWrites! because there were no existing venues producing solo theatrical works or developing works in progress that reflected the LBTQ experience. We’ve had sold out houses every year and presented writers, actors and directors from all over the Bay Area.. We cast our net far and wide to find LBTQ writers who wanted their work seen and appreciated by an audience who was hungry to go to the theater and see their lives authentically reflected onstage. I’m honored to pass the baton in 2019 to the brilliantly talented Tina D’Elia.
