Our 2016 Salon Series kick-off reading: Susan Jackson’s SAMARITAN
In a world of life-changing technological and scientific advancements, what does it mean to be "good?"
We hosted a full — and fully engaged! — house of 3GT Club Members and friends for our first Salon Reading, 3GT Associate Playwright Susan Jackson‘s new play, SAMARITAN, directed by 3GT Associate Artist Chad Deverman. Susan’s provocative play, which explores the limits of compassion in a not-too-distant future, received a powerful performance from our all-star Equity cast: Chloe Bronson*, Madeline H.D. Brown*, Chad Deverman* and James Hiser.*
As always, we are so lucky at 3GT to have the opportunity to work with some of the Bay Area’s finest artists. Finishing a script is one thing, hearing it read out loud is a whole other animal. For us playwrights, nothing enhances the development process like seeing great actors take our plays to the next level. This staged reading was a perfect example of what happens when everything clicks. Many congratulations to Susan and her cast!
It was our first time at the SF Public Library’s North Beach branch, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the lovely city views and open architecture of the new building (recently re-opened). After the reading, everyone joined us at a special opening day party at AJ’s place, just up the street from the library. It may have been raining (yay! we need it!) but our spirits were anything but damp.
Coming up next: 3GT Resident Playwright Margery Kreitman’s DIGITAL UPDATE 2016 on February 21. The reading will be at a private home in Tiburon. 3GT Club Members get first dibs on reserved seats, with wait-list available to the public. It’s not too late to join now so you don’t miss out!
